For The Military
The military service community and their families deal with
unique and complex issues. Child & Family Services understands this.
We have former military members on staff, who can relate to the
stresses associated with deployment, military-to-civilian transition
and financial distress.
Child & Family Services partners with the Navy-Marine Corps Relief
Society and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center to provide
financial counseling, education and intervention when needed. We are
especially adept in handling financial concerns related to Security
Clearance issues.
Active duty members are always encouraged to confer with their
unit’s Command Financial Specialist or the Financial Counselors at
Fleet and Family Support Center (for Navy).
If you think that debt management many be needed, or you do not feel
comfortable asking for help at your unit or military establishment,
please contact our staff at 757.625.2227, ext. 117. All initial
consultations are free to active duty members and debt management
fees waived for routine credit card repayment plans.
Child & Family Services is sensitive to the unusual circumstances
that military families face. From dealing with the pressures of
deployment and financial distress to more severe problems, such as
depression, Child & Family Services can help with Outpatient
Counseling.
Support from the United Way of South Hampton Roads lets us set fees
based on income and family size. We also accept selected insurance
plans, including Champus and Tricare. Evening hours are available.
For information, call our counseling services staff at
757.622.7017 (Norfolk) or 757.397.2121 (Portsmouth)
Through our Housing Counseling program, Child & Family Services
offers classes for first-time homebuyers. The courses cover such
topics as the mortgage approval process, credit reports, credit
scores, personal budgets, insurance costs and closing costs.
For those who already own a home, but are behind in their mortgage
payments, we can help with this too. As an approved Department of
Housing and Urban Development (HUD) counseling agency, we provide
services to homeowners facing foreclosure and severe delinquency.
Confidential counseling is also available for individuals with
credit or income deficiencies.
